Sermorelin Beyond the pituitary signal

Understand sermorelin and find care with these briefings

The evidence briefing

A higher blood test result does not promise a better day.

The body uses growth hormone as one of its chemical messages. Keep your goal in view as you read the study results.

The short answer

The small adult studies did not establish those promises.

Some small studies in older adults found higher growth hormone after sermorelin or a closely related medicine.

That is a result to discuss, rather than a guarantee about daily life.

Read a treatment claim with this checklist

  • Check who was studied

The main study linked to the old approval enrolled 110 children with diagnosed low growth hormone.

The report covered 86 children, who grew faster, but included no other group to compare growth with.

  • Check how long people were followed

The adult studies were small and short; they cannot tell us what happens after years of use.

How long the adult studies ran
    • Corpas: 10 older men, followed for 2 weeks.

    • Vittone: 11 older men, followed for 6 weeks.

    • Khorram: 19 older adults, followed for 16 weeks.

Khorram tested a medicine closely related to sermorelin, not sermorelin itself.

  • Check which result changed

The adult studies that measured body fat tested sermorelin or a closely related medicine and found no change in body fat.

In Khorram's study, a medicine closely related to sermorelin did not improve sleep quality.

Ask for evidence that fits your goal

Was this same medicine tested in adults like me, for the change I hope to feel? What would count as a useful result?

Keep a question

Keep your goal beside the evidence question you want to ask.
